Alas Pilipinas hopes to make the most out of the tournament, best streamed via PLDT Home’s Fiber Unli All Plan 1799 bundled with Cignal TV.
A potential historic spot in the 2025 Volleyball Nations League is on the line as Alas Pilipinas Women looks to make noise in the upcoming 2024 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Challenger Cup (VCC) held at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, Manila from July 4-7, 2024.
Though massive underdogs, the host team are looking to pull all stops, as it counts on every player and coach to step and pull off the improbable in the tournament locally organized by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation Inc. (PNVF).

“Handa kami laging lumaban para sa bansa namin, at sana naman ay mapasaya naming lahat ang manonood sa amin laban sa Vietnam (We are ready to play for our country, and we hope to make people happy in our game against Vietnam),” said Alas Pilipinas middle blocker Dell Palomata, also playing for the PLDT High Speed Hitters in the local commercial arena — the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).
“Medyo mas mahaba ngayon ang preparation time, pero kailangan pa rin namin ang lahat ng suportang makukuha natin sa ating kapwa Pilipino (We have had a longer preparation time this league. We will need all the support we can get from our fellow Filipinos),” added the 2022 PVL Invitational Conference 2nd Best Middle Blocker.
Alas Pilipinas fights for their lives as they clash in a winner-take-all scenario against Southeast Asian powerhouse and AVC Challenge Cup queens Vietnam on Friday, July 5, at 6:30 p.m.
Captained by setter Jia de Guzman and coached by Jorge Souza de Brito, the team won its first AVC Challenge Cup medal last May. It’s bolstered by the recent additions of prized open hitters in Jema Galanza and two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player Bella Belen.
Cherry Nunag, usually a middle blocker, takes the second libero spot. She replaces Jen Nierva, who was not able to participate in the preparations. AVC Challenge Cup Best Opposite Spiker Angel Canino, Sisi Rondina, Vanie Gandler, Faith Nisperos, Julia Coronel, and Arah Panique complete the VCC roster.
Other teams in the tournament co-presented by PLDT Home include European Golden League champion Sweden, silver medalist Czech Republic, and Belgium. Alas, Vietnam, Argentina, Kenya, and Puerto Rico round out the eight-nation conclave.
“Mahirap man ang makakalaban, ngunit kakayanin namin ito dahil sa lakas ng loob at tiwala ng ating mga kababayan (Against tough competition, we get inspiration and courage from our fellow Filipinos who continually believe in us),” remarked Palomata.
“Ang samahan namin ay lalong gumaganda kada araw, dahil maganda ang composition ng team na binigay sa atin ng PVL at ng PNVF (The team’s camaraderie improves everyday, and I think a factor there is the team composition plotted by PVL and PNVF),” she concluded.
